It didn’t take long to see how dangerous that Aaron Rodgers to Garrett Wilson connection is going to be, did it?
As Nick wrote last month, Rodgers is aggressive in attacking 1-on-1’s on the outside when he gets a matchup he likes. There is always a throw to beat the coverage in a 1-on-1 situation, and because of Rodgers’ pinpoint accuracy, he can hit those routes at will. This is one way he’s able to calm things down when the defense is throwing lots of disguises or movement at him in the middle of the field.
This is clearly an area we should expect to see Rodgers take advantage of Wilson frequently this season. It was on full display in their first game action together last weekend. Rodgers targeted Wilson 4 times on 9 pass attempts. The results were 3 catches for 30 yards and a touchdown, as well as a pass interference for an additional 22 yards.
You’ll notice from both the PI and the TD pass below that it didn’t take much separation for Rodgers to put the ball in Wilson’s hands:
It certainly feels like this combo is going to be something else, doesn’t it?
