We’re all anxious to see what type of player Jordan Love will be after spending the last three seasons behind Aaron Rodgers. Despite what you hear from prognosticators who are absolutely certain about the future, we still really don’t have enough information.
His most recent college tape is from the 2019 season. His NFL experience (1 start and 83 pass attempts) is minimal. We’re standing in a dark tunnel with a flickering flashlight and trying to see what’s in front of us.
We also only have 19 dropbacks from this preseason to give us a clue about what type of quarterback Love is right now. While I hesitate to ever read too much into preseason performances, there are a few things to take away from what Love has shown us this summer.
First, he looks decisive. The ball is going where it should. After 3 years of learning Matt LaFleur’s system, he appears to be in total command. I’m not going to predict that this will be a top-10 offense or anything, but it looks like it will be a competent operation at the very least.
Second, I think LaFleur has given us all a hint about how different his offense is going to look this season. Of Love’s 19 pass attempts this preseason, 9 have been under-center play-action.
Why does that matter?
