How Will the 49ers Account for Travis Kelce?
The 2023 regular season was somewhat of a down year for Travis Kelce. He averaged just 65.6 receiving yards per game, his worst since 2015. And his 10.6 yards per reception were a career low.
As soon as the postseason started, though, he flipped a switch. In 3 games, Kelce has 23 receptions on 27 targets (85.2%) for 87.3 yards per game and 3 touchdowns. The Chiefs have made a concerted effort to get him the ball, and they’ve done so in a variety of ways.
While that’s not really a change from what we’ve seen throughout Kelce’s career, it’s clear that Andy Reid has emphasized getting him involved early and often in the postseason.
The question is, how will the 49ers handle Kelce on Super Sunday, particularly on 3rd down and in the red zone?
