Jordan Love continues to pass every test. Teammates have raved about him all offseason. He looked great in the preseason. And in his first official game as the Packers’ starting quarterback, he showed that he is in complete control.
We all know that his physical abilites have never been in question. Any doubts about his game have had to do with the other elements of playing the position. But so far, he’s displayed many of those elements. He’s played with poise in the pocket. He’s shown the ability to manipulate defenders. He knows where to go with the ball.
On Love’s first of 3 touchdown passes against the Bears, you could see that ability to function in the pocket and win late in the down. Love would end up hitting Romeo Doubs in the back of the end zone, but notice how Doubs was his third read:
After seeing his first two receivers covered, Love turned to Doubs and knew he would have a chance once he cleared his defender. Love had to wait an extra beat in the pocket to give him time to get open. He kept his poise, pumped, and then delivered a perfect strike:
