Kenny Pickett was traded to the Eagles last Friday after 2 disappointing seasons with the Steelers.
In his 24 starts, he finished with a lukewarm 62.6 completion %, a 13-13 TD-INT ratio, and a 78.8 passer rating. It’s reasonable to point out that he didn’t have a ton of help from Matt Canada’s offensive scheme. However, the issues with Pickett go beyond the system he was playing in.
In fact, the same concerns we had with Pickett coming out of college (mechanics, lack of timing and quick processing, over-reactiveness to pressure in the pocket) all reared their ugly head in his first two years in Pittsburgh.
In the lead-up to the 2022 NFL Draft, my bottom-line analysis on him was: “In the NFL, great quarterbacking is about consistency. This is the biggest question mark with Pickett, particularly on some of the more subtle aspects of playing the position.”
