Related but not the same to Alex's and your point on dropoffs: I'd love to see a list of QBs that captured magic in some places and then looked awful in others, both appearing multiple times for a good sample set, with a range that seems unbelievable and cannot be due to age. The two best examples are probably Nick Foles and Baker Mayfield. The magic element and then the awful element are probably found best in Foles rather than Mayfield.

Foles is a great example. Russell Wilson? Daunte Culpepper (Although injuries derailed him)?

I’m very much an apologist for this type of qb. They show how much situation and supporting cast matter. Perhaps with both Foles and Mayfield, we can reconcile these ups and downs by looking at those factors. But Russell Wilson saw disappointment with Aaron Rodgers’s OC and Sean Payton. It looks more like a downward trajectory.

This is a really interesting one. Is his worse decision-making the main thing you feel like fell off? I’m also wondering if you know of any other examples of cases like this where someone playing at such a high level just kinda forgets while still in what should be their prime.

I think there's been a little bit of a drop in his physical skills. Again, still good, but hasn't quite recaptured the dynamic ability he once showed. Decision-making and pocket presence haven't been great. Many forced throws and plays where he's not seeing ahead of the receiver - not seeing coverage ahead of the throw. But this is what tends to happen when you miss substantial amounts of time. In 2020, he was really starting to master some of the intricacies of playing the position - aside from the physical portion of it.

Carson Wentz is the first example I can think of off the top of my head. He would have been the MVP in 2017 if he didn't get hurt. Then he slowly started to drop off when he returned until the Eagles benched him in 2020 (just shy of his 28th birthday) and then traded him away to the Colts.

Again, maybe he finds a way to recapture what he was doing in 2020. If we're going by the last two years as indicators, it's hard to be optimistic. And just 12 games in 3 years plus returning from an injury to his throwing shoulder scares me.
