What is missing with Purdy that the quarterbacks ahead of him (save Maholmes)? He throws accurately with a high epa and does so with a generally poor offensive line. He is close to the same age as a few of the rookies coming in, but never seems to be judged as a young qb the way that Jordan Love is

It’s mostly the physical aspect to his game. With most of these top-10 QBs, they can do a lot of what Purdy does but they add that physical dimension with their arm and/or legs

The physical dimension tends to overshadow the importance of the mental. The top x group of quarterbacks includes Montana, Brady, and Unitas none of which were physical marvels and was in part why each was drafted third round or later.

They each had hall of fame coach to give them a good system to work in. Following instructions is a skill.

I do think Maholmes is as good as each of them, primarily because he does the little things well. His ability to throw side arm is cool, but not as important as his ability to throw it to the right place.

I think Mahomes has shifted what we want from a qb away from the Brady archetype.

In the end, I am not saying that Purdy is close to any of those, because nobody is.

But the interceptions thrown by Allen and Love (post season) should be knocked harder. Being better at third and 7 is more important third and 20.
