This week at Football Film Room…
Fallout from the Aaron Rodgers injury
The Aaron Rodgers injury stinks. There are no two ways about it.
It stinks for Jets fans obviously. This was their most anticipated season with the highest expectations since 1999. It’s absolutely amazing that the exact same thing that happened then (quarterback Vinny Testaverde tearing his achilles in Week 1) happened again this season.
It stinks for the NFL. The Jets with Rodgers were the most interesting story in the league. Now we’re faced with a season that has no Rodgers, no Tom Brady, and No Peyton Manning for the first time since 1997… [Click here to read the rest]
How they match up - Week 2
It’s Week 2, and as we mentioned last Thursday, we like to provide previews of every NFL game each week based on team stats (Below is an example from the Dolphins-Patriots game). Remember, we’re not comparing one offense to another offense, since they’re never on the field at the same time. Instead, we’re taking a look at how each team’s offense matches up to that week’s opponent on defense, and vice versa.
The sample size is certainly small at this point in the season, but it won’t take long for these numbers to become representative of team identities.
Reminder: Green = Good; Red = Bad.

The Kelce factor
You don’t need to be an expert to know that the loss of Travis Kelce was a significant blow to the Chiefs offense in Week 1. It was particularly a factor on 3rd down, where K.C. went 0-for-7 in the second half.
One of the ways Andy Reid likes to utilize Kelce in these situations is with 1x3 formations where the Chiefs have three receivers to one side and Kelce isolated to the other… [Click here to read the rest]
How the Dolphins offense tore apart the Chargers defense
There are two sides to the Dolphins’ thrashing of the Chargers defense in Week 1. There’s the combination of talent, speed, and scheme by Mike McDaniel’s offense that made their passing game nearly impossible to stop. And there is also the refusal by Brandon Staley to treat Tyreek Hill like he’s a different receiver… [Click here to read the rest]
Christian McCaffrey makes the 49ers offense go
Wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk was named the NFC Offensive Player of the Week for his performance against the Steelers. Quarterback Brock Purdy looked more than comfortable in his first full game back from injury. But it’s running back Christian McCaffrey who makes this 49ers offense go… [Click here to read the rest]
